When an evil being named 'Teensies' breaks free from his globe, it is up to Rayman to find his way to this mythical world to restore balance to the universe.
After a short trip in the seas of the Caribbean, the hero arrives at the legendary Land of Dreams. His goal is to rescue an even more legendary creature, Globox, the turtle. But along the way, he meets other famous characters like Iguana, Coocoo, Goliath, Lemmy, and Valentino - who wish to accompany him.
Game play
The player plays through a series of levels by jumping around an environment by jumping on platforms and shooting enemies. The player does not control Rayman. Rather, the character is controlled by a cursor on the screen. During gameplay, the player can collect items to gain points or play mini-games.
The last episode of the adventure is the game's final level, the Titan's Fortress. The player must rescue Globox and stop the Teensies from destroying the world.
The game is playable in two modes:
Story Mode: The player controls Rayman and can freely roam around the levels in order to perform as many jumps as possible.
Classic Mode: The player can freely move the cursor around the level to control Rayman, but he is limited to making only one jump per platform.
Differences between versions
The versions of the game for the Xbox and Dreamcast were not compatible with one another. This version of the game ran on the Xbox, with six levels, one hub world, and four different difficulty settings. The original release of the game, however, was for the PlayStation. It was the first game on the system to include voice acting and use the PlayStation Phonogaph. The Dreamcast version was much more similar to the original PlayStation version than the Xbox version, even featuring a two player mode.
The original PlayStation version had a few graphical glitches. The game's hub world and the last level were almost completely blocked. This was fixed for the Dreamcast and Xbox versions of the game.
